NFL won't hold supplemental draft - The NFL will not hold a supplemental draft in 2008 due to a lack of participants.
There were rumors that USC ILB Rey Maualuga, Oklahoma State TE Brandon Pettigrew, and Mississippi State OT Michael Brown might apply, but they decided against it. Maualuga has a chance to be a top-15 pick in next year's draft. Chargers DB Paul Oliver and Ravens OT Jared Gaither were the only players selected in last year's supplemental draft.

Brett Favre - GB |
Report: Favre won't play for Panthers - The Rock Hill Herald does not believe going to the Panthers will be an option if Brett Favre comes off the reserve/retired list.
The Herald doesn't dispute that Favre might want to play in Carolina, but believes the team is satisfied with Jake Delhomme and Matt Moore as their top QBs. It's a particularly big vote of faith in Moore, a 2007 undrafted rookie.

Marshawn Lynch - BUF |
Bills to use Lynch more on third down - Bills offensive coordinator Turk Schonert reiterated that he anticipates Marshawn Lynch "being in on third down a lot more" this season.
"Anthony Thomas handled more of the third down role in the beginning of (last) season because we didn't want to throw too much at (Lynch)," Schonert said. "He's had a year, he understands the protections now and I think this year he'll be an integral part of our third down package." Thomas was cut in the offseason and Lynch is expected to be a true every-down back.

Report: Favre wants to play for Panthers - ProFootballTalk.com reports that Brett Favre's agent is privately saying that he wants to play for the Panthers.
There's not really an obvious reason for wanting to play in Carolina, but it's close to his hometown in Mississippi. He clearly feels he'd win the starting job over Jake Delhomme, and that the Panthers have a team that will compete in the NFC. If Favre really wants to make this interesting, he'd play for the Bears.

Favre on cover of Madden 2009 - Brett Favre is on the cover of Madden 2009.
The reigning Madden curse victim is Vince Young, a top-five fantasy QB when he started as a rookie who slipped to the QB19. Before him, Mike Vick, Shaun Alexander, Marshall Faulk, Ray Lewis, and Donovan McNabb had "cursed" years. Here's a reason for Ted Thompson to trade Favre in the division.

Pacman Jones - DAL |
Jones in Dallas until camp starts - Cowboys CB Adam Jones has decided to remain in Dallas for the three weeks of downtime between now and the starting of training camp.
Jones is regularly visiting team headquarters. It's worth noting because he needs to stay out of trouble until September 1 to be reinstated. Jones can practice in camp, but hasn't been fully allowed back in the league yet.

Kyle Williams - BUF |
Bills extend DT Kyle Williams through 2012 - Bills signed DT Kyle Williams to a three-year, $14.5 million extension through 2012, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter.
$5.7 million is guaranteed. Williams has played strictly nose tackle in coordinator Perry Fewell's Tampa 2 since being drafted in '05, but worked as a three technique during OTAs. We doubt he'll win that job over John McCargo and Spencer Johnson, but should remain a key rotational piece.

Najeh Davenport - PIT |
Cards: We have no interest in RB Davenport - Cardinals GM Rod Graves says the team has no interest in free agent Najeh Davenport.
Najeh said he'd target the Lions and Cardinals as suitors, but his off-field past will work against him. The Cards also aren't in position to sign players other than their rookies. It's too bad, because this could've been a nice fit.

Gerald Alexander - DET |
Alexander vs. Bullocks at strong safety - With Dwight Smith entrenched as the Lions' free safety, Gerald Alexander and Daniel Bullocks are expected to battle at strong safety in training camp.
The winner of Alexander vs. Bullocks (and we're betting it'll be Bullocks) could easily lead the NFL in tackles by a DB behind a front seven that threatens to be the league's worst. Smith could forge some value in deeper settings.

Charles Grant - NO |
Grant also being sued in civil court - In addition to a legal trial, Saints DE Charles Grant faces a civil suit stemming from his alleged involvement in the February killing of a pregnant woman outside a nightclub in Atlanta.
Grant was charged with involuntary manslaughter in May and maintains his innocence. No trial date has been set. Since this is Grant's first legal trouble in the NFL, the league may let the legal system run its course before deciding whether to discipline him. Grant should be fine to open the season.

Kearse promises Eagles will regret move - Jevon Kearse promises that the Eagles will regret cutting him.
"They'll say, 'Why the hell did we let that dude go?'" Kearse said. "Maybe it was a good reason: So I can get [hissed] off and get more motivated." While Kearse should turn it around some under Titans line coach Jim Washburn, there's about a 99% chance that the Eagles will not regret cutting him. He's 32, was never productive in their rotational scheme, and just got a DUI.

Brett Favre - GB |
Report: Favre was ready to 'un-retire' in May - The Green Bay Press Gazette confirms through multiple sources that Brett Favre has indeed contacted the Packers about returning, and that his relationship with GM Ted Thompson partly led to his retirement.
There is no doubt Favre talked to coach Mike McCarthy about coming back two weeks ago, despite Favre's claims to the contrary. It's also clear through Favre's family and this report that Thompson doesn't want Favre back. The Gazette says Favre would have "un-retired" as early as May if Thompson had asked him back, but that didn't happen. Thompson reportedly isn't returning Favre's agents calls. This is all a little childish on both sides, but Favre can force Thompson's hand by being definitive about his plans. It's debatable whether he'll be willing to do so.

Nick Hayden - CAR |
Panthers close to deal with Hayden - The Panthers are reportedly closing in on a deal with sixth-round rookie Nick Hayden.
It sounds like he'll be the first Panthers pick to sign. Carolina drafted nine players in April and is above the current 80-man roster limit, so a small wave of cuts is forthcoming. Veteran Travis Taylor may be among the first to go.

Brett Favre - GB |
Favre's family members speak out - Appearing on Milwaukee TV stations late Wednesday, Brett Favre's family members said Favre is staying in shape but indicated he no longer feels wanted by Packers GM Ted Thompson.
Scott Favre put his brother's chances of returning at 50-50. "We know he can still play, he's healthy, so, if he did, it wouldn't surprise me." Favre's mother, Bonita, says her son hasn't felt wanted by Thompson "for the last couple of years." Favre never formally filed for retirement. The Packers must keep, release, or trade Favre if he requests to be taken off the reserve/retired list.

Thomas Clayton - SF |
Clayton quick, but doesn't break tackles - 49ers second-year RB Thomas Clayton reportedly looked "dartingly quick" during Organized Team Activities.
Clayton, who spent his rookie season on the practice squad, struggled to break tackles in the 2007 preseason, which doesn't bode well considering he's 222 pounds and lacks good speed. He's a longshot to make the roster.

DeShaun Foster - SF |
Foster to struggle for playing time? - The San Francisco Chronicle believes that DeShaun Foster will struggle for playing time in 2008, barring injury.
Mike Martz has spoken of using Michael Robinson and Frank Gore in the backfield together, but said nothing about Foster. Foster isn't great in short yardage, where perhaps the 49ers could use help, and at this stage of his career is little more than a poor man's Gore. He still isn't a bad handcuff.
